Stuff From Around Arkansas, April 9

Big money

Moneybags: Sen. Blanche Lincoln, bolstered by big money fundraiser with Vice President Joe Biden in March, raises $1.7 million in first quarter of 2009. She's got $2.3 million cash on hand. If you were wondering, those are formidable numbers. (AP) The End: Legislative session comes to a close. Quick, Arkansas pundits! Start penning your embarrassingly sycophantic encomia to the holy wonder that is Gov. Mike Beebe and our state of blessedness in living under his enlightened rule! (AP) Meet the … [Read more...]

‘A Good Fight’ Plays SXSW, March 21

A Good Fight band

It's been a while since we last checked in on Arkansas Project pop-punk rocker faves A Good Fight from Fayetteville, featuring the bass stylings of GOP Rep. Jon Woods. Woods drops a note to say that the band landed a gig at the big South By Southwest Music and Media Conference down in Austin this week. If you're not familiar with SXSW, it's obviously because you're not a member of the hipster cognoscenti, and quite frankly they'd just as soon someone like you not even know about it. Republican Rock Stars

Jessica Simpson, in better days

Todd Seavey, old friend and occasional reader of this blog, e-mails to say that state Rep. Jon Woods and Johnny Ramone are hardly the only rock musicians with conservative or GOP sympathies. Just off the top of his head, he lists "Michael Graves of the Misfits Ted Nugent Bob Seger (Buchananite, anti-U.N., as noted in articles and ostensibly hinted in songs like "Lock and Load") Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens Alice Cooper Danny Elfman Neil Peart of Rush Kid Rock C.C. Deville (of … [Read more...]

Arkansas’ A Good Fight Hits MTV at 1 p.m.

A Good Fight hits the big time

I'm not entirely sure when this turned into a fan site for A Good Fight, but: We've reported previously on the Fayetteville pop-punk band, who beat out 4,000 other bands to take top honors in the "I Want My Music on MTV" contest. Their track "The Drama" will be featured today on "Made," an MTV reality show at 1 p.m. Afterwards, MTV will premiere the video for "The Drama." The band includes Arkansas Rep. Jon Woods on bass, Eddie Love on vocals, Rizz Woods on guitar and Sean Merriott on … [Read more...]

‘A Good Fight’ Goes National With MTV Appearance

Fayetteville's A Good Fight

Last week, I noted the Fayetteville-based pop-punk band "A Good Fight," featuring the talents of Arkansas Rep. Jon Woods (R-Springdale) on bass. As a follow-up, Woods informs me that the band will be featured at 1 p.m. on Sunday as the winners of the national "I Want My Music on MTV" contest. (Other band members are vocalist Eddie Love, guitarist Rizz Woods and drummer Sean Merriott). Woods says that the band beat out 4,000 other acts to have their song "The Drama" featured on an episode of … [Read more...]
