Vic Snyder Has Terrible Poll Numbers, Also

Vic Snyder sees polling woesSay, you know who’s breathing a sigh of relief this morning? Sen. Blanche Lincoln — because for once people will be talking about terrible poll numbers that aren’t hers.

Public Policy Polling, a Democratic-leaning firm out of North Carolina, reports that a recent survey of Arkansas’ second Congressional district shows only 42 percent of voters approving of Democratic Rep. Vic Snyder’s performance, with 46 percent disapproving.

Snyder polls strongly with Dems, but he’s hurting amongst Republican and independent voters. The pollsters characterize the 2010 race for this seat as a “toss-up” at this time.

A lot of Snyder’s issues can probably be traced to overall feelings about his party. 54% of voters in the district disapprove of the job Congressional Democrats are doing, 52% disapprove of Barack Obama’s job performance, and 50% express the feeling that Congressional Democrats are too liberal. Additionally 55% of voters say they’re opposed to the health care bill the House passed last week with Snyder’s support, including 91% of Republicans and 67% of independents. Snyder seems to be bearing the brunt of a lot of animosity toward national Democrats in his district.

PPP has more over here (with link to PDF file with full results). The survey also shows Snyder slightly leading each of his potential GOP opponents, Tim Griffin, David Meeks and Scott Wallace. All are within the margin of error.

  • I am extending a challenge to the other Senate campaigns here.

    State Senator Kim Hendren has agreed to debate me in a series of Lincoln-Douglas style debates. Though I emailed twice and called the candidates, so far most of the other candidates have politely refused to respond. Even though on Facebook it’s open to all candidates for U.S. Senate, 34 have confirmed attendance, and 96 more said they maybe will be there.

    Mayor John Gray says he won’t debate unless Senator Lincoln is there. Buddy Rogers says he’ll come if all the other Republicans come.

    REALLY???

    Here’s a chance to make sure the rubber meets the road. A chance to show that issues matter more than raising money from wealthy individuals and special interests. Here’s a chance to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

    The first one is November 30th, with a reception from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and then debate from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at UALR in the DSC, Room C. It’s sponsored in part by a political science group at UALR.

    So far, State Senator Kim Hendren is the only one with the character to say yes and will show up. I am the only one for the Democrats. The Green Party candidate, which I would think could appreciate the press, seems like he wants to add conditions to a display of true democracy.

    There is another debate being organized at ASU and another one at U of A, Fayetteville by student groups.

    This is an open challenge to all the Senate candidates.

    Well, this post would be much better in a related story, but since David apparently has decided to be a capitalist instead of a journalist (wisely so) I will just have to resort to posting this here.

    GREAT NEWS for the ARGOCOGLOWARM…apparently their efforts were not in vain. Led by our marvelous and magical governor, the ARGOCOGLOWARM has led the way in abating the dreaded civilization killer GLOBAL WARMING.

    Of course, the ARGOCOGLOWARM did nothing more useful than create a lot of hot air, fortunately most of which was in the winter, and killing a lot of trees to print out the commission’s voluminous reports,…wait, don’t both of those contribute to global warming? Sorry, back to the point…civilization can now rest easy because it appears global warming is abating.

    Here is the latest news on this issue – “Global warming appears to have stalled. Climatologists are puzzled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years. Some attribute the trend to a lack of sunspots, while others explain it through ocean currents.”

    I say bah and humbug (decidedly a little early for Christmas terms, but so are most major retailers) on climatologists’ attributions of this trend to sunspots or ocean currents. The only folks who have actually done SOMETHING about global warming is the ARGOCOGLOWARM.

    Congratulations Mr. Magical Governor and your ARGOCOGLOWARM, well done sirs and madames.

    Of course, if bloviation and killing trees are all that is necessary to slow or stop global warming, we may have a new problem next month. Yearly sessions of the Arkansas General Session begin in January and these folks are absolute masters at the art of bloviation and tree killing. We may have the start of a little ice age now that yearly sessions are on tap.

    Could it be possible our governor will have to create the ARGOCOGLOCOOL in the near future.

    It is now apparent, with the final and deciding vote cast by our own Senator Lincoln, the Democrats are intent upon revising the Declaration of Independence. During yesterday’s debate, Democrat after Democrat described health care as a right.

    Folks, the Declaration of Independence states the following, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

    I suppose the argument is that failure to have adequate health care is an infringement upon these rights, but what about the staggering tax burden soon to be thrust upon the citizens of this great country. The collapse of the family can be timed almost to the same point the Liberals began their chase to overload our citizens with taxes. Two parent families became two worker families as taxes rose. Dinners at home with the family became grabbing KFC and Taco Bell on the way home.

    There is no possibility of adequately explaining, other than a huge tax grab, the fact that as soon as this bill will pass, now a certainty with Ms. Lincoln’s deciding vote, we will begin to pay dramatically increased taxes for services which will not become available until 2014. We will pay taxes for five years before services become available. What an interesting financing option. I will go down to Ford and buy a car and pay for it over the next five years, pick it up in 2014, and then continue to pay for it.

    To be honest, I really don’t care who our next Senator from Arkansas will be as long as it is Senator Anyone But Blanche Lincoln. I was amazed to listen to her explain her vote by saying she was voting the will of the majority of Arkansans. I hope she uses the same polling company for her reelection campaign as the one that gave her the data on what Arkansans desire in this issue.

    The new liberal health care bill will be an interesting take on the Declaration of Independence:
    Life – Shorten it by rationing health care in the long run, especially for seniors.
    Liberty – Don’t think for a minute this is the end result, everything relates back to health and they will use this bill to control more and more of our lives.
    Pursuit of Happiness – Will become “Can’t today kids, Daddy and Mommy (and the two older kids) have to go to work to pay our new taxes and try to put food on the table.

  • Cameron Buff, I believe your understanding of what taxes are is an inaccurate understanding. Taxes are the price we pay to live in democracy.

    It’s a standard practice by conservatives to use the T word. To say this service or that service provided by the government means more taxes.

    Do you want a safer neighborhood in terms of a highly-trained police force, state of the art jails that hold the criminals in, and a fire and EMS team that is there in our times of our peril?

    Then pay your taxes.

    Do you enjoy nice, clear, well-taken care of roads to travel upon?

    Then pay your taxes.

    We want our children to get the best possible education that prepares them for the future.

    Then it is provided by paying your taxes.

    And a healthier population, means less families going bankrupt, because of soaring health care costs. A universal, single payer health care system means that the free market, through the kicker, has a safeguard to protect us against greed.

    Lets not forget it was this supposed unchecked and without government overseeing it “free market” that has given us the countless instances of Wall Street greed, the “Golden Parachutes”, and the multi-billion dollar bailouts of Chrysler, GM, and the Airlines.

    Universal, single payer health care is a good thing for our kids and the working men and women of this nation. Because the current system is broken and not working.

    Put THIS in your book: Taxes are the price we pay to live under Democrats!

    True, taxes do pay for safer neighborhoods. In Arkansas, however, those taxes are local in nature, collected mostly on sales and use of services and goods. Care to incorporate that type of tax statewide and nationally?

    Roads are good. Fuel taxes pay for the bulk of them. Another example of a sales and use tax. Getting the picture yet?

    My children get the “best possible education”, but it’s certainly not from the public schools, which, by the way, are funded by and large from the most regressive and unconstitutional taxation known to man – property taxes. Care to provide tax breaks for those paying double to fund the dumbing down of American children in public schools while sending their own to much better private schools?

    I didn’t think so.

    Take your liberal, money grabbing, wealth redistributing ass home, pal. We don’t need your death panels deciding if we live or die. And we’ll keep that trillion out of the national debt while we’re at it.

  • Pete, if we were in Jonestown, Guyana, I believe you would be serving the Kool-Aid, before drinking it yourself.

    The dealth panel is a myth and was proven to be a lie. Also, if you examine the plans, you would see Health Care Reform LOWERS the deficit. And which President last lowered the national deficit? A DEMOCRAT….FROM ARKANSAS….whose administration gave us the best economy since World War Two.

    But seriously, taxes should be balanced, yet at the same time are a needed commodity. The flat tax doesn’t work. I am all for a tax reform measure.

    What I don’t like is when people have the capacity to think and reason, and instead demagogue like you do, and shill for some partisan rhetoric. The American People are tired of the hot air from both sides of the aisle. They want truth and they want results.

    BTW, look up Reubin Askew. Great Governor of Florida, who raised taxes, because they needed to be raised. If you want lower taxes, then support reforms that lower the need for taxes in the first place.

    You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!

    The truth is that during Reagan’s tenure, he lowered taxes on the rich, yet the rich wound up with a larger share of all taxes paid to the federal government by the end of his term in office? Why? Because all that money was freed up for investment, and the investment created more wealth, and when that money changed hands, the government got a share of it, albeit at a lower percentage.

    The truth is that lower taxes creates greater revenue for the federal government. Period.

    The truth is that Clinton used all that money generated by Reagan’s tax cuts to balance his budget for a few years. And of course, partisan hacks like YOU give all the credit to Clinton. Never mind that the country revolted on the Democrat party two years after he was elected and gave Congress back to the Republicans. But, I’m sure that doesn’t have anything to do with anything.

    Taxes never “need” to be raised. Period. We are already paying way more than we should to fund our local, state, and federal governments. At this point, if there isn’t enough money flowing into the coffers of government, then services need to be cut. That’s never the first option, though, because governments are drunk with the public’s money.
