Stuff from Around Arkansas, March 3

Rep. Mark Martin

Sunshine State: Nice post from blogging GOP Rep. Mark Martin looking at government spending and transparency. Why doesn’t Arkansas have a good online database to make state spending open and accessible, he asks, like all these other kids do? (Off the Marble)

Revenooer Man: State revenues up $30 million in February, but state budget chief Richard Weiss says it won’t last. Wait! Doesn’t he say that every single month? (AP)

Somebody’s Watching Me: Man, it’s almost like they’re TRYING to take all the fun out of stalking people. (Arkansas News Bureau)

White Riot: Hey, remember those neo-Nazi skinheads, one from Helena, who worked up a zany assassination plot against Barack Obama last fall as part of, I don’t know, some scheme to launch a race war or something? They’re still around. (AP)

  • The stalking bill reminds me of a college friend of mine who I last ran into a couple of years ago. I asked him what he had been up to recently and he told me that he had had a bad breakup with an ex-girlfriend and was spending a lot of time hanging around outside her apartment building, watching her as she went to and from work, calling her at night and hanging up to see if she was at home, etc…

I asked, “Um, no offense, but doesn’t that kind of sound like you’re, um, stalking?”

He replied, “I prefer to think of it as tracking.”

    Good times!

Whew! I just misread the above and thought skanking was being outlawed. I had nightmares of my collection of Pie Tasters, Operation Ivy and Buck-o-Nine records suddenly becoming undancable and irrelevant. Glad that’s not happening! When would I wear my pork-pie hat?
