Arkansas Legislature

Stuff from Around Arkansas, January 23 (Updated!)

Gun Show: Tolbert Report says the GOP is “bringing in the big guns” to fight cigarette tax hike. The biggest gun in this arsenal? Dick Armey, who was in Congress like 20 years ago. Great. I think we’d have better luck if we brought in THESE big guns.** (The Tolbert Report)

This Week at the Capitol: It’s legislative madness as the AP’s Andrew Demillo rounds up everything you need to know. (AP)

Tax Talk: Roby Brock’s Political Buzz blog is your one-stop shop for news on the state of the cigarette tax debate, and let me tell you it’s an exhausting read. You’ll probably need to break for a smoke afterwards. (The Political Buzz)

Surviving the Game: Arkansas bucks nationwide trend by showing increase in hunting licenses, but overall trend is still down. Yet I’m still not allowed to capture homeless people, take them to my private woodland reserve and hunt them for sport. Where’s the justice? (Arkansas Times)

**UPDATE: Y’know, now that I think about it, I probably should have noted that you may not want to click on that link in the first item if you’re at the office, because it may be NSFW. And by “may be,” I mean “probably is.”

So if you’re at the office and you clicked on that link and then had to have an uncomfortable conversation with your employer about what’s appropriate for the workplace, please let me know, so that I can extend a heartfelt apology. No, I’m just kidding, I only want to know so that I can laugh at you for being such an assclown.

  • Sometimes my humor is lost on everyone other than myself but the “big guns” comments was a pun on “sending in the Armey” which is a pun on Dick Armey’s name. You what, now that I wrote all that out, it’s really not all that funny anyway. Nevermind.

Christ, Tolbert, I only picked up on the “big guns” line so that I could pave the way for that link. It’s not all about you. Especially when chicks in bikinis with automatic weapons are involved.

  • Eh, good point. I did not think about that angle. I just figured no one understood my attempt at humor.

It appears no one, including yourselves, got either attempt at humor.

Yes! STILL the worst blog in Arkansas! Thanks, Hillary.

  • Hillary, did it occur to you that these comments themselves are also an attempt at humor as well. Oh wait, perhaps your comment was too. Now I’m confussed.

Hill, who cares if it was funny, the girls and guns link won the one handed applause of a good one half of the guys that visit this website. The other half are just waiting until their wives go to bed.

Are there really companies that prevent access to this kind of stuff????? Do they know realize the wanton violation of the 2nd Amendment they are committing?

I simply can’t understand why looking at automatic weapons would be against company policy.

While I am thinking about it, does anyone know of a good place to go looking for a job these days. A couple weeks ago, I was traveling down the Internet superhighway while at work and for SOME REASON, my boss became angry at something or other I was looking at while on The Arkanas Project site. Who knows, the guy is probably a closet Dem and just doesn’t like the politics. I know FOR SURE there were no automatic weapons on the site at that time. Anyway, I am looking these days, so keep me in mind…

In the meantime folks, my advice is avoid The Arkansas Project site and stick with the Tolbert site. Nothing much is ever posted there…
