Doug Thompson has a good article there but I don’t know that I agree. Arkansas Republicans need to stop acting like Arkansas Republicans. I.e., they need to stop infighting, selling each other out, fighting for the mantle of the “most Republican” while they suck up to the Democratic leadership at the same time.
There really is no unity in the Republican party in Arkansas and its elected officials are laughable in their weakness. No, Doug, Arkansas Republicans aren’t acting like national Republicans even though they are bringing in national figures. That type of activity is a typical tactic for Arkansas Republicans, “We can’t articulate an affective message in opposition and if we did, it may hurt our relationship with the Speaker and President Pro Tem. So lets bring in a speaker that we happen to admire to relay the message for us.”
That is such an Arkanas Republican tactic that it is almost funny.
What the RPA needs and what we need in the legislature is a dynamic leader that is brave enough to fight and capable of delievering a strong message.
