Stuff from Around Arkansas, Dec. 16

Eternal winter descends on Arkansas....

Always Winter; Never Christmas: It’s just a little snow and ice, Arkansas. Quit acting like you fell through the back of the wardrobe and you and your army of talking animal friends are getting ready for an epic battle with the White Witch. (AP)

Never Say Die: Arkansas electors cast their votes for John McCain and Sarah Palin, the losing ticket in the ’08 presidential race, in a final depressing and humiliating ritual that serves as a capstone to an election that most Republicans would just as soon forget. But, hey, they nailed Arkansas! Who’s with me? (Morning News of NWA)

Hero Dog: A dog saves a Van Buren woman from carbon monoxide poisoning after her home heating unit springs a leak. I don’t really have anything funny to say about this; I just happen to like stories about heroic dogs. I also like videos of cats flushing the toilet. You should probably keep these facts in mind when you’re shopping for my Christmas present. (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette)

I spent three hours…count ’em, three hours, trying to get home yesterday. It normally takes me 20 minutes. I cussed and cussed LR drivers, as I normally do, thinking that it was a psycological condition that was causing them to drive so slow. Then I got to the River bridge and discovered that it was one large sheet of ice that I could hardly creep over. South of the river it was clear. North of the river it was ice. Don’t understand it but I like to blame it on the cold, cold heart of Pat Hayes.
So I called into work this morning and told them I would be in when it clears up.
I agree, we in Arkansas over react when there is any winter weather. We buy 10 Gallons of milk and 12 loaves of bread, we rent 18 movies and then hunker down for the end of days (If folks would pay attention, they would know that the world won’t end until 2012). But this ice stuff we get, it does warrant attention. It is crap. I hate it. Give me snow any time, this ice be damned.

    Rex,
Thanks for that link. I’m going to hold it in reserve for the next time I hear someone complaining about all the useless crap on the Internet, then I can pull out that video as proof positive that, truly, we live in A Golden Age.
