Rumor-Mongering: Griffin vs. Lincoln 2010?

Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Tim Griffin
Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Tim Griffin

Via Jason Tolbert: Is former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin considering a run against Sen. Blanche Lincoln in 2010? Sources say the answer is “yes,” as does Griffin’s Twitter account.

Previously, on The Arkansas Project: Flashback to October 5, when we examined a teaser from Griffin guaranteeing that Lincoln would face a formidable challenge in 2010….

Update: That was fast. Here’s the AP’s Andrew Demillo with a news story on same, which includes response from the Lincoln camp. At this rate, Griffin will have announced his campaign steering committee by 4 p.m.

I gotta say I’m not sure what Tim Griffin is thinking. He seems like a nice, if overly ambition, young man. However, where is his base of support going to come from in a primary and a general election?

Tim is obviously a better candidate than someone like Jim Holt, but there is a real possibility (probability even) that Tim would lose to Holt in a primary. In a general I don’t see how he could overcome his close relationship with George Bush and Karl Rove.

Tim ought to wait 20 years and see if he can’t rehabilitate his reputation.

Br549, That would be the most boring general election in ages. The outcome is already known to everyone but Tim Griffin.

Yea….Tim…this is a bad idea. You seem like a nice guy. We have some friends in common, they think a lot of you. You would have been a great US Attorney if it had happened a little bit different. Lets wait a while before you jump off and do this.

Maybe so Bill, but he would do some crazy, crazy shit.

I mean think about it, he just announced via twitter that he was “mulling a senate run.”…cue Brummett’s head exploding.

Not impressed with announcing via “Twitter” he was mulling a Senate race. Neither would 95% of Arkansas voters.

    You just proved Bills point.

Well, the Repubs gotta start somewhere.

This mysterious dream “candidate” isnt going to surface…which should speak volumes about the Senator’s “vulnerability.”

Br549, Blanche is beatable, but it would take a candidate like Stanley Reed to beat her.

If the Republicans want to truly make Arkansas a two party state they need to continue building a farm team in the legislature. If they can get over 40 members in the state house and 13-14 seats in the senate they’ll be well suited to run a race for Governor in 2014.

I’m going to have to agree with Br549 and Bob on this one. My fellow Republicans keep talking about Lincoln’s “vulnerability,” but without a specific candidate it sounds an awful lot like the Underpants Gnomes’ “profit.”

If we could get APG to let you run would you throw your ring in the hat, David? I’d volunteer and lick stamps for you.

“Lick stamps”? Now, Bill, you and I both know that the sheriff told you not to step foot in Lafayette County ever again.

Well, I’m actually not allowed to go to Ouchita County anymore. The reason is because of me, a frog and the mayor of Stamps.

I left out an important fact. The mayor and I were at the Dixie Dog in Camden at the time of said incident.

As Shakespeare said in “Measure for Measure”, “Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose what we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.” So, go for it Timmy G. You won’t win if you don’t try.
    So now it seems the contest is going to be;
Tom Cotton (nobody but a few Repubs know him, no name recognition will have a hard time raising money).
Rick Calhoun (dropped out of one race already, rumors abound why).
And Tim Griffin (whom Max Brantly is going to town on).
    Anyone else I’m missing?

Honestly, out of this group, the best politician is probably Tim Griffin. The boy knows politics.

That being said, Calhoun is a Scottish name. We all know that you can’t whip the Scots. If Tim Griffin looks like he will win, Calhoun will snap his neck and then burn down his house.

At least it will make for good blogging.
