Your Help Needed: Media Player Test

It doesn’t happen frequently, but every so often we’ll feature audio files on The Arkansas Project (for example, during political season we had a few radio ads and such from various campaigns).

I’m trying out a new media player, but need to confirm that it works properly with the blog. That’s where you come in: Give the link below a click and then drop a note in the comment section to let me know if it played the (awesome) song, or if you encountered problems. Thanks.

Update: Many thanks to the Arkansas Project team for helping out. Sounds like the new media player feature worked nicely for everyone but Fourche River Rex, who really should break down and buy a new computer, for crying out loud. That TRS 80 you bought from Radio Shack in 1982 just isn’t getting the job done, Rex.

Appparently it’s not working for me. There was no awesome song. Just some crappy theme song from a show that I hated as a kid.

Didn’t work for me. But my computer is ancient.

BTW, have you stopped to figure out what the title is of the record in the above picture? Someone with better German skills help me. I took German in college, but not having any one to speak it with, I’m rusty.
Iche is I. Kusse is Kiss. Ihre is their. And hand is hand. I kiss their hand, madame? Am I messing up my conjugation because that doesn’t make much sense? Or does “Ihre”=”your”. Either way, “I kiss their hand” or “I kiss your hand”, it doesn’t make much sense.
Anyone able to translate? If so, kommen sie auf undt hilfe.

Ask and ye and shall receive, Rex:

Record label of His Master’s Voice EG 962 by “Whispering” Jack Smith (1898-1951). This recording of “Ich küsse ihre Hand, Madame” (In Dreams I Kiss Your Hand, Madame) was recorded and originally issued in Germany in 1928. Picture source: the collection of Fredrik Tersmeden, Lund, Sweden.

    I found this…

I get it now. I kiss your hand, madame…but I’m dreaming. Apparently this is from a movie with Marlene Dietrich. I found a whole German Wikipedia page on it. I haven’t spent so much time fooling around with German since I helped the Von Trapp’s escape the anschuluss.

  • Wow! Who says mp3s aren’t Hi-Fi! The sound quality sent chills down my audiophile spine!!!
    Those silly Germans.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that somebody recorded that track with a cassette recorder from a television speaker. In the next room. With the door closed.

Crap, Kincade. I live in a double wide down a dirt road in Perry County. I don’t even get cable TV. There are chickens in my yard and my neighbor makes meth in an old smokehouse in the woods. I doubt a new computer will do much good. I’ll just keep using this one until the chicken wire holding this one together finally breaks and the guts of it fall out on the floor.
You know times are hard for us working folk. The paper mill shut down for a week and that means many folks are just out a check. Do you expect folks like that to get a new computer just so they can hear whatever crap you put up? I mean, it hits sort of hard this time of the year. Not everyone can run out and buy a new computer on a whim. So if you can’t make your songs user friendly for the working man, we’ll just amble over to Max Brantley’s blog where he swears he’s doing all he can to make sure people like me are taken care of.
Of course, I’m pretty certain “taken care of” is code for “taken out in the woods and executed”, but I’m not sure yet so I’m gonna take my chances.

Ah … Uh … What was that sound? The “Different Strokes” theme song? Tell me you weren’t a fan. Please.
