Keep An Eye On This Tom Cotton Fellow
Everybody wants to be your senator! One name floated frequently as a potential candidate in recent months has been that of Thomas Cotton, a Yell County native and Harvard-educated lawyer who resigned his job with a D.C. law firm after 9/11 to enlist in the military. Right now he’s on active duty, but is expected to return home to Arkansas this summer.
Sources close to Cotton say that he’s taking a harder look at the 2010 Senate race and considering a challenge to Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln as a Republican.
While we’re on the subject and in case you missed it, The Tolbert Report noted Friday that North Little Rock businessman Tom Cox, one of the organizers of the Tea Party movement in central Arkansas, is considering jumping into this race. I’ve heard the same, so add that one to your watch list as well.
UPDATE 7/25/11: With Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Ross announcing he won’t run for re-election in Arkansas’ Fourth District in 2012, Cotton has reemerged as a potential candidate for Congress.
Tom Cotton is genuine patriot and a hero. He has an amazing story.
You know, I’ve heard a lot about Cotton that I like. But it troubles me that no one knows him. I think that is a stumbling block.
I just don’t think he’ll have the ability to overcome Baker in a primary. I also think that Curtis Coleman may have access to more money.
So I wonder what happens to Tom Cotton.
If this is an election about economic issues and small government, it also hurts Cotton. If it is about national security, then he wins.
Does anyone know if Cotton has access to money? Does he have anyone outside of the state that will pony up for him? I know he got some attention for damning the traitors in the media, but did that get him a following with deep pockets? While I like what I hear about him, I just wonder if he’s got the political connections that will allow him to broadcast his life story.
I suspect that Cotton can raise more money than Coleman and Baker combined.
How’s that Bill? Give us some hope here, explain.
At the end of an interview with Dave Elswick on Tuesday, Tom Cox said there would be incredible announcements at the Tea Party on Monday.
I have had the great pleasure of working for a year with Thomas Cotton. He is by far and away one of the most devoted individuals that I have worked with. Not only an extremely intelligent individual but, one of the rare officers who actually showed a genuine concern for his Soldiers. Although I am not an Arkansas resident….. News of Captain Cotton running for Senate makes me wish I were. If he were to devote even an ounce of time and energy in a Senate seat as he did as my Platoon Leader….. The Republican Party would be a far better place for it.
I went to grade school, middle school and high school with Tom. I knew from the 5th grade that he would go into politics and so did he. He got a full ride to Harvard and graduated a year early. He’s a great guy. He comes from an Arkasas Farm Family. They have a family farm, his mom is a junior high school principal and his father works for a utility company or the state in someway.
