Jimmy Bryant Eyes Secretary of State Bid

Republican Jimmy Bryant, a justice of the peace on the Faulkner County Quorum Court, tells Joe Lamb of the Log Cabin Democrat newspaper that he may run for secretary of state in 2010. Republican Rep. Mark Martin is also considering the race, and Democrats Mark Wilcox, Doris Tate and Pat O’Brien have all stated their intention to run. More on how the races for state constitutional offices are shaping up over here.

Thank goodness Jimmy is stepping up. We have a lack of qualified credible candidates that are stepping up. The lack of interest and a sense of entitlement means we end up with buffoons like Mark Martin trying to run. Incompetent goofballs that blog stupid garbage set a bad example for the party and are the last thing we need to try and represent us.

To the contrary, Rep. Martin is a passionate conservative who has had the courage to stand up to the Democratic leadership in the House. He has been rock solid against tax increases. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and as SOS he will work to ensure that the votes of our service men and women will be counted.

His blog contains some of the most detailed information on the inner workings of the Legislative committees. His efforts to shine the light on what goes on in the Capitol has won him the disdain of those who don’t want the lights on. It should win him the praise of conservatives everywhere.

I would invite Mr. Strickland to give examples of where Rep. Martin has been incompetent, or has set a bad example for the party, or what stupid garbage he has blogged.

I don’t know Jimmy Bryant, he may be a great fellow. Primaries are good for the party, as long as we don’t spend our efforts tearing each other apart. I do know Mark Martin, I have served with Mark Martin, and Mark Martin would make a great Secretary of State.

Nice come back from someone who is much like Martin. How much did your little home business day care scam cost the taxpayers of Arkansas last year. Kind of sleezy being an elected official and having a business that also collects a paycheck from the taxpayers of Arkansas. Kind of feathering your own nest? Pretty sweet deal. I am sure Martin can figure out a way to send some cha-ching your way.

Mr. Stricklin, if you are ever in Mountain Home, I would invite you to come by for a tour of our childcare centers. Our business, which was operating long before my election to the General Assembly, provides services to many working families, some that are receiving state assistance. The state funding comes to the business because those families choose our services.

Please contact me if you wish to accept my invitation.

And you see no problem with any of that? You, an elected state law maker. actually benefits financially from money provided to families receiving state tax monies. They choose to use your company, so do they know that you are a state lawmaker? Do you disclose this? Or do you keep it from them? Do they know that in a budget crisis, you could vote to cut or extend the benefits. There is no right anwer, either way it is wrong? You disclose, maybe they feel they get better care, a sweetheart deal or feel pressure or can pressure you. You don’t disclose, you can become a hypocrite in that you promote or maintain a business receives state money, and any vote you make will be suspect.

You leave it up to the state to make sure these people are deserving and not scamming the system. Either way, it is in your best interests to make sure the more on this type of program the better. Do you not realize how corrupt this looks? Evidently, not or else your own ambition to be in office lets you set aside your political belief system. You make money from a program, that in its very existance is big government taking your constiutients taxes and paying them to others. Of course go ahead and tell me that the working families need it. That it is a great well managed program and no one scams it. You can’t even with a straight face try and fix it, because, after all, that is your own business. You sir, are a fraud. Turn in your R and pick up a D on your way out the door.

And the national party wonder what’s wrong with the Arkansas GOP. It’s idiots like you Andrew Strickland. Attacking other Republicans because they dare to enter a primary.

Can’t agree with Andrew Strickland (if that is a real name).

When Johnny Key and Brian King speak, most Republicans will listen, because they have the credibility of fighting the fights in the trenches.

I hate to see someone criticize Mark Martin, too. If you know what the Ds have tried to do to him, you would understand what an outstanding legislator and conservative he really is.

Mr. Stricklin, I suppose I should consider your response a rejection of my invitation. It shall remain open, however, should you someday change your mind.

I appreciate Senator Key and Mr. King’s service as conservative legislators. I’m sure, as with everyone, there are some small issues on which we may disagree. However unlike many (“many” are usual those who simply complain but don’t do anything) they’ve put their name out there and are working to make our state better. They’re working to advance conservative causes.

Yeah, Johnny, I am rejecting your invite. There is no purpose for me to see how you are ripping off the taxpayers of Arkansas. That is what you are doing at its worst. At best you are compromising your values as a conservative and choosing yourself and your best interests over the people you represent. You have put yourself in a ethically compromising place. To not even acknowledge that means you are completely dense or you have no intergrity

Since you haven’t chosen to answer my questions above, they obviously must have struck home. The truth is brutal you are no different than the democrats that have padded their pockets for years. Government is a business these days and as long as you are in there you can help yourself at the trough. Sadly, you cannot even see it for what it is. You have compromised and continue to compromise your primary responsibility of your oath. You can hide behind disclosure forms and laws. But the fact remains, in order to be respected and do a good job for the people, your integrity must be beyond reproach. Make a decision, either resign or turn down the money from the state.

As far as Martin, the guy is an immature little child that was able to slide through the various hoo[s to run for office and make it almost to the top on his party. He is not a leader, he is an ass-clown who got in a position of power and squandered it away. I don’t question his conservative positions or views. It’s his delivery that sucks. He comes off as a complete moron with his behavior and while that may work for the “hip” crowd, he loses in that he doesn’t command respect. You may see it different, but look at the way he communicates across all spectrums and do an honest evaluation. Maybe this ice cold bucket of reality will change him. Maybe a few more years will tone it down. But for now, he is poor representation of what we need; leadership, which can be respected. In the end you can throw stones at me. But there are thousands more than feel just like me.

I doubt that Andrew Stricklin is a Republican, as no Republican would ever post such vile about a fellow (elected) Republican. It would be a TERRIBLE way for Jimmy Bryant to get attention, as this type of rant would certainly cost him votes in an R primary.

Sounds much more like Stricklin is a D plant, probably a Pat O’Brien supporter, who is trying to throw bombs into this forum so that the Rs kill each other in a circular firing squad.

    Not Jimmy Bryant-approved, I trust.

Barbara, believe it or not, I think Mr. Stricklin is supposedly part of the GOP leadership in Craighead County…sounds more like a liberal with all his name-calling, doesn’t he? From other things I’ve read from him, he is diametrically opposed to ANYONE who he’s not personally supporting. I don’t yet know anything about Mark Martin, but Stricklin’s entire objection to him seems to be about the way he presents himself and his delivery. He even admits to not questioning his conservative positions or views; with leadership like his, we may end up voting in a RINO. Wonder if he’s a supporter of Gilbert Baker? There isn’t a bigger “ass-clown” out there.

From someone who is part of the GOP leadership in Arkansas, I wonder if he can explain why they’re so weak in this state? Why are we such a conservative state with liberals like Lincoln and Pryor in office? Why did they not run anyone against Vic Snyder before now? What about Mark Pryer last year? I could go on and on. The GOP in Arkansas is weak and with leadership like his, no wonder!

Simple answer to the simple question as to why we are so messed up, Doyle Webb and the people he replaced. Look at who we choose to run our party and before him, well what do you expect when we get a RINO to run our party. What I want to know is who will bite the bullet and run against Beebe. Who will step up and be the sacraficial lamb? Webb? Huckabee? King? Hutchinson? Reed? Holt? Can we at least get someone? Nine for US Senate because Blanche is easy picking. What about all the other offices across the state? Time for new blood like Skooch to step up and show some leadership. At least he knows what that is.

I totally understand where Mr. Strickland is coming from. The RPA is broken. If the GOP in Arkansas was on the right track, why didn’t they run anyone against Snyder or Pryor or many other state and local races? Also, if the GOP in Arkansas doesn’t run a candidate against Beebe, they will fall into a minority party status. This means they will have to get signatures on a petition to put anyone on the ballot from that point on until they gain back a major party status. Is the RPA that weak they can’t find a viable candidate to run against Beebe?

I was contacted by the Andrew Stricklin you reference who is part of the GOP committee in Craighead County, who reports that he has not posted to this thread. The individual posting above under that name is apparently not the same person.

Well, the link on Stricklin’s name was to the GOP website in Craighead county…. until your post, David. So someone is trying to start a circular firing squad here.

I notice that those links to the Craighead County GOP have been removed.

So, in my mind, the guy or gal posting here as “Andrew Strickland” is a plant, trying to start something, and hoping to tank two R candidates with one stone thrown.

That does happen with liberal posting policies, and is the reason why the Arkansas Times (of all people) forced registration.

Game is up, Mrs. Andrew (Pat O’Brien) Strickland.
