Jake Files To Run For Senate District 13 Seat (Updated!)

Count former Arkansas Rep. Jake Files in as a Republican candidate for the state senate in District 13 in Fort Smith. I spoke with Files this afternoon and he says he’s running. The seat is currently held by Republican Sen. Denny Altes, who is term limited and has said he will run for the state House of Representatives next year. (In November 2008, Files told the City Wire he was considering the run.)

In other Senate news, Steve Harrelson’s Under the Dome blog reports today that former Rep. Linda Chesterfield will challenge Hendrix College poli sci prof Jay Barth in the race for Senate district 34. Both are Democrats.

UPDATE: The Tolbert Report says that Republicans Jim Medley and Frank Glidewell are also rumored to be eyeing the seat, and adds that Democratic Rep. Tracy Pennartz may be considering a run.

He will back out just like he did last time he ran for state representative. He is a great guy but Jim Medley will win that race hands down. Jake backed out at the last minute last time he was going to run for state representative and a dem walked into the seat when the numbers were 60-40 Repub vs Dem. Terrible

Numbers were and are more like 65-35 DEM vs Repub (it is the seat Tracy Pennartz now holds)…I hear there may be others in the race as well…

I wouldn’t count much on Jake following through with it. Didn’t he also run for State Republican Chair and drop out? This will likely be another of his “I’m in, I’m out” performances. When the going gets tough, he is usually gone.

Frank Glidewell wins that Senate seat. Jim Medley is a good guy but all the votes are in Frank’s area of the county. As for the general Frank beats that guy Pennartz.
