HE’S IN: Tom Cotton to Announce Senate Run

The Associated Press is reporting that Congressman Tom Cotton (AR-4) will announce his intention to challenge Senator Mark Pryor next week. The announcement will reportedly come at a campaign event in Dardanelle, Arkansas, Cotton’s hometown. Cotton spokeswoman Caroline Rabbitt confirmed to The Hill that the event will take place next Tuesday.

This news is anything but a surprise, but it should make conservatives in the state feel pretty good about their chances of defeating Pryor next year. Cotton has already surpassed the $1 million mark in fundraising for his re-election campaign and has over $1 million cash-on-hand with zero debt.
Cotton’s move is also likely to spawn a Republican (and Democratic) primary battle in the Fourth District. Lt. Gov. Mark Darr and Majority Leader Rep. Bruce Westerman are both likely candidates on the Republican side. UPDATE: AP reporting Westerman is getting in to the Fourth District race.
Roll Call says Pryor is “arguably Democrats’ most vulnerable senator of the cycle,” and says the race is a “pure toss up.”
