Don’t Write Off This French Hill Character
D.C.-based politics pub Roll Call explores Arkansas’ Second Congressional District and wonders if anyone can knock off Democratic Rep. Vic Snyder. Little Rock banker “J.” French Hill, long rumored to maybe be running for something or other at some possible time, emerges as the darling of the Beltway Republican crowd:
…Republican strategists are holding out hope that they can get a bigger fish into the race, namely French Hill, the chief executive officer of the Little Rock-based Delta Trust & Banking Corp. who served as a senior economic policy adviser under President George H.W. Bush.
Hill is also being wooed by Senate campaign strategists to challenge Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) next year, but NRCC officials aren’t shy about talking him up for the 2nd district race.
“French Hill would give Vic Snyder the race of his life,” NRCC spokesman Andy Seré said Monday. “I think that there is a growing opinion in Arkansas that Vic Snyder is far too liberal for the district he represents. This is a conservative district full of middle-class families who do not appreciate the liberal legislative agenda of Congressional Democrats and President Obama, and yet Vic Snyder has been with them every step of the way.”
On Monday, a spokeswoman for Hill said the Little Rock banker had no comment on his political plans.
Whole thing here. Though Hill is mum on his plans, he’s been making the rounds in recent months speaking to some GOP groups in the area, and on Monday he published a high-profile guest op-ed in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette critiquing the Obama administration’s fiscal policies.
And as a bonus, here’s a Dallas Morning News article from 2008 focusing on Hill’s work as national finance chairman for Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign. Clip ‘n’ save!
Also quoted in the Roll Call story is Conway Republican David Meeks, a propane truck driver who announced last month that he was getting in to the race to challenge Snyder.

We need a tier 1 candidate in this race! RUN FRENCH RUN!!!
Vic Snyder lost his Internet domain name this week. He had been using “snydercampaign.com” since 1990, but no one bothered to pay the renewal fees this year. His domain name was in limbo status where it could have been recovered, but now it is available for anyone to grab for a few bucks. The other obvious domain names for Snyder’s campaign seem to been controlled by cybersquatters.
I don’t understand why some politicians allow their domain names to expire. Mike Huckabee had to pay a small fortune to get his back. I think Snyder just doesn’t get the Internet. He certainly has had no impact on improving the broadband availability in his district. The only Internet activity he has publicly discussed is his viewing terrorist beheading videos, which is not a particularly good use of the technology to be promoting.
Wow, that was fast. Some mischief-maker grabbed Synder’s domain name and hid it behind a proxy registration. For the record, it wasn’t me, and I don’t know who did it.
Haha, I almost swiped it for him yesterday after reading this. We actually secured that domain in 2000 (I was his campaign manager that cycle and tried to wrangle vicsnyder.com away from some cybersquatter in Pennsylvania). BTW, Doug, I’m not even sure the Internet was around here in 1990. I was still playing my Atari back then.
Sorry, that should have said 2000. I’m still having Y2K problems.
