Court Hears Lottery Arguments Today

The Arkansas Supreme Court will hear oral arguments today regarding the state lottery proposal. Lottery foes want the proposal thrown off the ballot, saying the language is not clear and voters will be misled; lottery boosters say “nuh uh.”

The Arkansas News Bureau’s Rob Moritz had some fine weekend reporting on how state lotteries thrive in tough economic times, and offered a good overview of the two sides’ arguments.

Meanwhile, Heather Hahn at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette examined the case being made against the lottery by various religious organizations in the state in a thoughtful and fair-minded Saturday piece.
