Boozman Mulling Senate Run? Sure, Why Not!

Rep. John Boozman: What's one more?
Rep. John Boozman: What's one more?

Rep. John Boozman, the stalwart lone Republican of the Arkansas Congressional delegation, says he might just get in to the U.S. Senate primary to challenge embattled Sen. Blanche Lincoln, too. I haven’t been this excited since Stanley Reed got in the race!

Oh, and another poll out today, now from the Arkansas News Bureau, shows that Lincoln’s approval is finally rebounding after months and months of sagging approval ratings and grim prognoses for her electoral future. Ha ha! No, I’m just kidding, of course. The numbers are still just absolutely terrible for her.

Really? I had heard the rumors of him being intellectually challenged, I guess I didn’t realize how true they might be.

If Boozman gets in the race it is game, set, match. I expect all the U.S. Senate candidates from the 3rd district to run for the House instead of the Senate. Heck, all the candidates in 2nd district would be wise to get out. The nomination is his if he wants it.

In a general election Blanche’s #’s are so low he’ll win by default. Folks, John Boozman will be your next U.S. Senator.

  • Teddy Republican, really?

I have known John Boozman for many years and know him to be an intelligent, serious, honest, kind gentleman who got involved with elected office and continues to be serve for all the right reasons.

  • Please no. Stay where you are. Resist the urge. My opinion, but I think it would be counterproductive. Nice man but no.

The reason I fire that shot is that we already have 9 candidates in the race on the Republican side. We have so many it just looks silly. If Boozman gets in this late in the game it will look a little too opportunistic.

Thus the intelligent choice, for himself and the party, would be to stay where he is and hold a safe Republican seat.

I don’t know what Boozman will do. However, if he does leave Congress, Asa would be the last one on my list for a replacement. Asa has stabbed too many loyal Republicans in the back…people that helped him A LOT in his races and then were abandoned or ignored by him when they could have used help later.

It’s time for the little kids in the Senate race to stop playing and let the grown-up in to start working.

    Boozman 2010!

Terrible news. When will the Republican Party ever grow and run fresh candidates with no loosing records ?

  • The only question left is what will Boozman’s margin of victory be in the primary and the general.

Interested Observer is right on the mark about Asa. After the 2006 election he could have stayed involved with the party and helped candidates in the 2008 elections. Instead he literally turned his back on people that had been loyal to him for years.

Don’t support Asa for ANYTHING! Ozarks GOP and interested observer are right. When he is finished with you he will turn his back on you and forget you exist. He left ALOT of the people who helped him in his Governor race high and dry.

What are you all talking about in regards to Asa. He has been a huge help to the RPA. He has traveled the state speaking, given money to candidates and given advice to anyone who asked. I guess these complaints are coming from some former volunteers who expected a job after the election. Asa is a lawyer. He can’t just give everyone who helped him a job. He is not a wealthy person and can’t support these young ingrates forever. Let go of the bitterness and go get a job.

Ms Jeffery I don’t know who “Ozarks GOP” and “interested observer” are but I do know most of the people who worked on Asa’s campaign were disappointed after it was over. Not just volunteers either. Some were people who had worked very hard and sacrificed a lot to get him elected and in the end were left holding an empty bag. They have a right to be “bitter”.

You can call them names and take a very simplistic approach to Asa and say he is just a lawyer and he is not wealthy, which both are true, but Asa is very well connected individual who could have done more for the people who broke their necks to help him. I think some things can be learned from our opposition. I doubt Mike Beebe would have left some of his people high and dry like Asa did. The Hutchinson’s in general have developed a reputation for being selfish people. Republican insiders will tell you Tim, Asa, and even Jeremy will only support you if there is something in it for them. Jeremy is the worst of the three.

This dialog is pointless. Asa should have no problem getting his old congressional seat back. I guess at this point we are just running down fellow Republicans which is not really productive. I just thought people should know if you help Asa don’t expect him to return the favor.

  • Well, in Asa’s defense, I don’t know of any of his former campaign staffers who didn’t up landing well enough. Take me, for example. I run a highly unpopular political blog, and I’m getting ready to eat a microwave burrito for lunch. I’m successful!

  • I agree with Ms Jeffrey, As a volunteer on Asa’s campaign and former county chairman, I speak with Asa by phone every few months and he has been very kind to me. Is he supposed to get everyone a job after the campaign? This is politics and not every candidate is going to win. It is a risk you take when taking a position on a campaign.

There are several elected officials who put there neck on the line to help Asa raise money and hit Beebe in 2006 to their own peril. When they were on the ballot later, Asa refused to help with money, appearances, etc. Some of these people had been loyal to Asa for many years. Of the four or five that come to mind instantly, none of them wanted a job from Asa, just a little fundraising help in the next cycle.

Asa has developed into one of the most self-centered people I have experienced in politics and that is saying a lot. He lost in 2006 because he failed to connect with people. His brother, Tim, used to give speeches where he would say that “people don’t care what you know until they know that you care”. Asa just didn’t and doesn’t care about anyone but Asa. If you have had a better experience with him that is fine. But all that I know is that the Asa that I knew in the 90’s and early 2000’s, the one that used to help other candidates and people in general, is gone. The new Asa has a politically terminal case of D.C.-itis.

Damn, I wish I lived up in them Ozark hills. I’d raise me a possum and vote for ole Asa. He was a fantastic Congressman and I’m real happy we’re going to get him back up in D.C.

I have never known Asa not to help a Republican in need. You are either delusional or supporting a possible opponent of Asa and trying to trash him in advance. I must say I find your actions dispiccable. Asa has given more to this party at great personal experience than anyone I know. You should be ashamed

  • Cloudy skies is right. This is a trainwreck happening right before our eyes in slow motion. Heck, I like Asa and Boozman but this smacks of opportunism on both their parts. If Boozman wanted to run he should have manned up and declared early before it looked like a sure thing. If Blanche exits I think he would be a weak candidate simply because he has not been in a real contest in a while. I personally do not want re-treads as Congressmen. There is not a deficit of older white guys in Washington that we need to fill with one of these guys. We need some new blood. Boozman should stay put and Asa should stay in private practice law. Just my opinion.

Why are Teddy Republican’s opinions always consistent with the financial interest of Clint Reed?

  • It is odd that we think someone announcing in January is jumping in the game late. The primary isn’t till May. All politicians are opportunistic. There isn’t one of them who is running who doesn’t think he should win(well if they are then they need to get out).
