Arkansas Individual Health Costs To Skyrocket Under Obamacare

We often talk about the horrible impact of Obamacare in general terms: “It’s socialized medicine. It’s going to lead to rationing. It’s going to increase the cost of health care.” All of these things are true — and important to remember — but sometimes its helpful to look at those scary things called numbers.
The good folks at The Heritage Foundation have provided this chart which shows the one-month premium change in all fifty states. In Arkansas, the average increase for a 27-year old adult is 171% — the second highest such increase in the country, behind only Virginia:

For an adult age 50, the increase is 79%, the fifth highest jump in the country.
Also, the NRSC has released a new infographic today that shows the impact of Obamacare on Medicare and the impact of Medicaid expansion on Arkansas households:

So the next time someone tells you Obamacare is lowering premiums or leading to “cheaper” health care, now you’ll know better. (And no one tell Davy Carter or John Burris that the NRSC is classifying Arkansas as a state that expanded Medicaid!)

Just read the article, it’s seems funny that numbers are relevant when there is a political point being made, (poll numbers are skewed? 2012 elections)
My husband and I live in AR greatest state in the nation!
His quote, 54y/o male……….$80. eighty dollars.Yup it is horrible right? when we tried to get insurance for him before it was $240 two HUNDRED forty a MONTH. If you want to talk numbers how about $72 million, that’s the amount spent by Republicans to vote to repeal Obamacare 42 times, and how about $24 Billion, lost in revenue while the Republicans pitched a fit about Obamacare. Now, please tell me again how the Republicans are about fiscal responsibility. I had always voted Republican But it was the Lincoln Republican I admired. I don’t know what we have today as Republicans, but whatever it is, it is not working, and to fight against people getting care when their sick, or to fight to cut food stamps, I have to wonder ” do those people hear themselves? Come On, this country needs two parties, debate issues, find paths of success, take care of each other, do the right thing and live peacefully with our brothers and sisters of the world. Be a good American, a good person. Instead of huffing about this law, how about something constructive, helpful, something better than all the hateful slurrs. Both parties should hear one thing from Americans after this debt crisis, “You have been weighed, measured and been found wanting.” The numbers for that, 60% of Americans say, fire all of congress. I think it’s safe to say that’s a new low and surely in 2014 Americans who know they can do better will step up to the plate and begin to lead this country.

If his insurance is only $80 for a 54 year old male, then who else is paying the rest of his premium? Someone else is subsidizing him. More than likely it is young healthy people people paying a lot more than they would have to otherwise. Health care costs overall are going to go up as more people enter the system and someone has to pay for that.

I am one of those young people and… I am okay with that. I find it acceptable to pay a little more per month for my own insurance in order to provide for the long term betterment of society and to improve the state of healthcare in this country. Overall, my health insurance (individual + domestic partner) is increasing about $150/mo. Luckily, I work for an employer who isn’t absurdly greedy and is footing most of the extra cost so that I will only be paying a total of $54/mo for my health insurance.
I did check out the exchanges though and plans for me (individual) ranged from $160/mo (bronze) to $280/mo (gold) without subsidies. Honestly, those are not bad prices.

The NRSC obviously has a better hold on reality than our GOP lawmakers in Little Rock!
