Sanders: Obama Slipping? McCain Swimming?

Dave's van, pre-mural

In a Sunday piece, Arkansas News Bureau columnist David Sanders jumps into the deep end to assess the state of the Presidential race with a counter-intuitive take on the campaign. Sanders suggests that, despite national polling trends, Democrat Barack Obama may be facing some challenges, while Republican John McCain could be gaining ground. Sanders and I are both McCain-Palin supporters, of course, but he's a good deal more sanguine about the race than I am. Frankly, I'm starting to feel like … [Read more...]

GOP Debate Watch Party, Wednesday

If you're not tired of debates after the last two years of presidential campaigning, you are one very, very sick person. But if you've got the stomach for just one more, why not head down to the Riverdale 10 Cinema in Little Rock on Wednesday night? The Republican Party of Arkansas will be hosting a watch party with a big screen broadcast of the final debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. It kicks off at 8 p.m. at 2600 Cantrell Road (in the shopping center next to Office Depot). … [Read more...]

ARG Poll: McCain Up by 12 in Arkansas

I try not to get too caught up in reporting on polling, because it gets to be kind of obsessive, plus I have trouble with big numbers. But since I don't think I've seen any recent poll numbers strictly focusing on the presidential race in Arkansas, I'll point to this from American Research Group, Inc., which has John McCain over Barack Obama in the Natural State by 12 points —53-41, with a 4 percent margin of error. I don't really know anything about the polling organization, so caveat emptor … [Read more...]

Arkansas Group Hits Obama on Ads

I'd heard some rumblings about this yesterday, but didn't get the official word till late last night (who sends out news releases at midnight?): Citizens for Open and Reponsive Government, an Arkansas-based 527 group, is pushing a new independent ad hitting Barack Obama for what they describe as "slurs" against John McCain. It's a response to Obama's ad from a week or so ago hitting McCain for not using a computer—but it soon became clear that McCain doesn't do much work with computers … [Read more...]

‘Good Morning America’ Comes to Helena

On Sept. 25, perky ABC morning show "Good Morning America" will broadcast from scenic Helena, Ark., along the banks of the mighty Mississip', as part of the show's "50 States in 50 Days" death march series, the Helena Daily World reports. Among the featured attractions will be a couple from Little Rock who don't see eye to eye on the presidential race. That's right! She's a liberal Obama supporter; he's a conservative McCainiac! What hilarious misunderstandings and hijinks will ensue? Tune in … [Read more...]

Sign of the Times

...is that you won't see many campaign signs in Arkansas in 2008, at least in the presidential race. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Matthew S.L. Cate, who was tragically born with one too many initials, reports that Arkansas' "nonbattleground status" means that campaign yard signs will be hard to come by in the Natural State. But if no signs are bad news for supporters of John McCain or Barack Obama wanting to show their allegiance, it's good news for Ad Craft of Arkansas, a Little Rock print … [Read more...]

Sanders: Independent Minded

Arkansas News Bureau columnist/radio host/TV personality/one-man media empire David Sanders is back on the presidential race and notes that John McCain is gaining ground among independents. He looks at recent polling information that looks good for McCain's chances with the coveted swing voter sector, and examines how we got here (hint: Sarah Palin helps McCain). But the question is: Will it last? And never mind the national polling—what about the electoral votes? Over to you, Blake … [Read more...]

More on GOP Victory Team Shuffling

Following up on The Tolbert Report's blog tip earlier today, the Arkansas GOP's Victory 2008 chairman Doyle Webb confirms that Republican staffers in Arkansas to support the McCain/Palin ticket are being downsized and distributed to more competitive states. Webb tells the Rob Moritz of the Arkansas News Bureau: John McCain has a strong lead in the state of Arkansas. Particularly after Senator Obama snubbed Hillary Clinton and did not choose her as his running mate, we have found that lead has … [Read more...]
