Arkansas’s Conservative Farm Team Featured in Ad

Several Arkansas conservative activists star in a new ad that begins airing in the state today. The ad, produced by Senate Conservatives Action, highlights Senator Mark Pryor’s less-than-conservative voting record in the U.S. Senate. But the ad -- which features 11 Arkansas activists -- also displays the strength of the conservative movement here in Arkansas. What a sharp contrast to just 5 years ago when Pryor was re-elected without a conservative opponent. To help highlight the growth … [Read more...]

An Alternative View on Medicaid Expansion

Murdock

In response to my piece last week about the perils of Medicaid expansion, I received an email from Rep. Reginald Murdock (D-Marianna). He said: “I've read your responses and understand your concerns. I believe we should expand Medicaid for various reasons. But please understand your concerns are my concerns as well.” I was very curious to hear how Rep. Murdock could understand my concerns but still think we should expand Medicaid nonetheless. I replied to his email and asked him if he … [Read more...]

Math Over Emotion: Why Governor Beebe Is Wrong on Medicaid Expansion

Medicaid expansion in a picture.

When Governor Mike Beebe took to the podium on Tuesday for his “state of the State” speech to the legislature, you might’ve thought you were listening to President Obama. For several minutes, Beebe made the case for expanding the state’s Medicaid program and embracing Obamacare -- in an effort to “save money,” of course. The speech was purely emotion. He talked about “kicking the elderly out of nursing homes,” the children, and the disabled. But there are a few problems: … [Read more...]

Advancing Arkansas: Incoming Speaker Carter Seeks Tax Reform Debate

carter-davy(1)

I recently sat down with incoming Speaker of the House Davy Carter to discuss his plans for the legislative session that begins on Monday. Carter is entering his third and final term as a state representative from Cabot. He was elected as Speaker this past November. Speaker Carter agrees with essentially every other state legislator I have talked to: Medicaid is by far the biggest challenge facing the state. So, how do we fix it? The Speaker declined to offer a specific plan at this point, … [Read more...]

Lightning Strikes–Again!

Wendy Rosen, via her Facebook page

Some people, including liberals in Arkansas, deny that voter fraud happens enough to worry about, and argue that the chance of being affected by voter fraud is “less than being struck by lightning,” despite evidence to the contrary. Well, now it seems that "lightning has struck" again. This time Maryland voters were the victims. From The Baltimore Sun: Wendy Rosen, the Democratic challenger to Republican Rep. Andy Harris in the 1st Congressional District, withdrew from the race Monday … [Read more...]

Lightning Strikes East Arkansas Voters

8b04206r

Opponents of election reform in Arkansas often make ridiculous claims about the amount of fraud that actually occurs in our state--despite evidence to the contrary.  Two recent examples provide some comic relief, in light of recent events. In April, the liberals at the “Blue Arkansas Blog” unloaded on Lt. Governor Mark Darr in a post respectfully entitled, “Letters to the Pizzaman: Darr Yet to Show Any Examples of Voter Fraud.”  ‘Cause, ya know, Darr owns a successful pizza … [Read more...]

The Real Story of Ethics Reform in Arkansas

There has been a lot of talk in the Arkansas blogosphere about the proposed ethics reforms being proposed by ‘Regnat Populus.’  I myself have recently weighed in as well, finding it fairly easy to support the first two provisions of the act and difficult to support the last.  What has been quite interesting is to see so many liberals/Democrats who have previously opposed real, constitutionally-sound ethics reforms in the past now jumping on the ethical government bandwagon.  Allow me to … [Read more...]
