Interesting... Pryor gets by virtually without opposition, but some are smelling blood in the water around Blanche. It wouldn't seem to be a good year for a Haavad man or an investment banker, but of course there's still French, a legend in his own mind.

I wish we had a Jindal. Although I don't like that he thinks health care is a right, I do like almost every thing else about him. Actually, we do have some Jindals in our state, they just need to get up the gumption to run. The question is if a no-name person ran that was an intellectually inclined non-threatening evangelical would republicans in the state rally around that person. I myself am tired of the Delays, Holts, and Parks that have run in the past. While I am sure I agree with them on most issues the fact is they are simply unelectable in a wider race because they scare off conservative leaning independents that are less religious. We need better candidates!

I'm sorry but the last thing we need in the US Senate are more lawyers or investment bankers. They're the groups that helped create the financial meltdown we are now in. And don't even get me started on the fiscal liberal former preacher. His brand of republicanism is the reason we are in the predicament we are in. We need to go younger and newer. We need to think outside the box with someone who combines the best of fiscal and social conservatism with the right touch of libertarianism.

BR549,

I'm not claiming it wouldn't be a major challenge to beat Blanche. She's got 12 years of making friends behind her, but she isn't unbeatable. In a good Republican year a well funded candidate could beat her. I'm not saying will, I'm saying could.

Bill-

They didnt get to have "very deep pockets" by making dumb decisions.

spending their own money against an incumbent who votes in a matter that doesnt hurt their back pocket wouldnt make a whole lot of sense.

It aint about guns.

BR549,

You run at Blanche from the right. She has a very poor record on guns from her days in the House. Plus, she's going to have to vote for Obama's welfare tax plan. She is legitimately open to criticism in that way.

You are right to ask where the money comes from. Without money you can't beat her. That said, French Hill and Rick Calhoun both have very deep pockets and could put 7 figures worth of personal money into the race. If a well funded candidate runs against Blanche she could be beaten.

D-
You must have been on the squad that vetted Palin...

heres my question for those pushing this "candidate" that will appear in 2010. where do they run at her from? from the left? from the right? and where will the $$ come from?

respectfully,

Frank, I don't know what personal problem you have with Rick, but as someone who may not even support him in a primary against the others mentioned in this article, let me defend him. He is a successful businessman, a first rate historian, gifted orator, good family man, and a true conservative. We would be a better party if Rick should choose to represent our party for any elective office.
